Experiencing wearing the traditional Japanese clothes-kimono and yukata was a wonderful experience, enabling us to taste another part of Japanese culture.
But probably the thing I enjoyed the most was the lesson how to play the shamisen, PEACE volunteers so kindly provided for us.

I am so glad that we had been given the opportunity to join the PEACE program,
where not all of the foreigners are able to experience. I am talking about
a cool happy coat, very kind people, very interesting ceremony, and great
foods, they all left an impact to me and my experiences in Japan.

PEACE was a wonderful experience. I experienced many things that would
not have been possible without the help of PEACE. I was able to experience
first hand what Japanese culture is, such as wearing kimonos and playing
the samisen.

Being able to participate in events by the PEACE organization was a huge
highlight in my study abroad experience to Japan. I was able to share my
culture as a Hmong-American as well as learn more about Japanese culture,
wear a kimono, and learn how to play the shamisen. The shamisen was hard
to play but through a quick practice by ear, I was able to play “Sakura
Sakura” on the shamisen and it made me very happy.

The PEACE members did an excellent job providing the exchange students
of Bunkyo Gakuin University with valuable Japanese cultural experiences.
I was fortunate enough to attend the Syamisen and Kimono event, the sushi-rolling
lesson and dinner, and the guided tour of Ueno Park. All three experiences
were well-orchestrated, informative, and engaging. This was not only due
to the content of the events, but also thanks to the PEACE staff members,
who showed nothing but friendship, enthusiasm, and generosity towards the
participants.

I was able to participate in a tour of Ueno park and another event with
PEACE members where I was able to wear a traditional kimono and play the
shamisen. During both events, I was treated with amazing kindness, generosity,
and hospitality, so I would like to thank PEACE for all of the above.
